This is the in between time where we are still looking forward to Halloween, but we’re also getting inundated with Christmas posts, movies, trees, and decorations before one of our favorite holidays is even here.

These are probably my two favorite holidays, so I like to celebrate them rather than rush through them…or skip over them. To me, the magical time in between is the first half of November. The leaves are almost gone, we’re about to get snow, and Christmas cookies and candy will soon be made.

I’ll add some recipes later, but my point is that we should CELEBRATE a holiday before we gloss over it to move on to the next. And it’s not just that I have a whole series based on a Halloween party. This is about costumes, dressing up, all things witchy and wonderful…as well as all the great memories we have as kids during Halloween.

What was your favorite costume? Mine was probably when I was about 4 or 5. Apparently, my mom had made me a little witch costume the year before, then put all this makeup on me to make me look scary. I didn’t remember that, but this time I decided to glance in the mirror…and started crying. I did not want to go outside.

Mom to the rescue! She took an old lavender sheet (yes, lavender!) and added some glue and glitter to make some swirls, then cut a slit to go over my head, tied a plastic floral swag (I think) around my waist, and announced I was a fairy princess. Best costume ever!

Do you have any favorites (past or present) that you’d like to share. Send some photos! I wish I had one, but I haven’t seen those in a long time. Such a great Halloween, and we could still go door to door for candy, since we lived on an Air Force base and knew all our neighbors.

Have a wonderful, witchy (or fairy princess) Halloween!
